Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct outlines the required behaviour of our members and guests for participating in the Ballarat Hackerspace. If you identify a breach of the Code of Conduct, inform a member of the Committee as soon as possible. If there is immediate danger or a threat, remove yourself safely from the situation, contact security or the police as appropriate first.

Respect & Consideration

It is a requirement of our community that all members support an inclusive and respectful culture in our spaces (including both physical and virtual). We expect all members and guests to be respectful and appropriate to each other at all times, and aware that these are shared spaces with people of all ages, skill levels, backgrounds and cultures.

Discrimination & Inclusivity

Any acts of discrimination of any kind, or any acts of harassment (verbal or physical) are instant grounds for cancellation of membership and expulsion from the space. This includes any comments or content that is sexist, racist, religiously or politically targeted, or that is intended to be insulting to anyone in any way. We are committed to creating an environment where everyone, irrespective of their race, gender, age, abilities, or sexual orientation and identity, feels valued and respected. The Committee has the right at all times to decide as a group whether a reported incident is considered to be harassment or discrimination and what actions are appropriate.

Nuisance Behaviour

Any action that a reasonable person would consider a nuisance is grounds for a warning and/or potential cancellation of membership depending on the severity and circumstances. These actions include (but are not limited to) consistently doing things such as: leaving a mess and/or not putting things away after using them, being inappropriately loud, removing tools and equipment from the space, and going beyond the “fair use” policy of consumables.

Finality of Decisions

The Committee decides on all incidents as to whether the reported incident counts as a breach of our Code of Conduct and what any potential actions are appropriate. Committee approved actions are final. Membership and attendance in the space is a privilege, not a right, and you agree to these terms and conditions on joining and through continued usage of the space.
