GovHack 2016 is just around the corner! This is a nearly 48 hour competition for people to use Government data to enrich our lives. Some of the previous year's entries have been an app to help emergency response by a community, and visualising our city of Ballarat.

Achievement unlocked! First workshop in the space – and we certainly jumped straight in the deep end with a "building our own 3D printer" workshop. Well perhaps "building" is a little broad, though the full title of "assembling, reflashing, upgrading, calibrating, and troubleshooting your 3D printer" just seemed overly verbose.

At the space we are busily putting together bits and pieces for the space to give you seating room and access to internet and equipment such as the 3D printer, soldering station, oscilloscope, dmm, monitors, keyboards, etc. While we are doing that, it makes sense that this months theme is "Hack the Space" as we get ready for more people to come into our community space.

You could say it is getting exciting!

The past two meets have seen a few new faces pop in and bring with them some exciting gadgets to play with. Stefan bought in his jaw-dropping Occulus rift and Brett brought in a new 3D printable quadcopter chassis that he is putting together.

GovHack is a 48 hour event where challenges are put to the community to come up with inventive ways to use government data. Since it's inception in 2009. GovHack has seen participation grow to over 1000 teams as of 2013. Originally, it was based in Canberra, and has slowly grown to include major capital cities and for the first time this year a number of Regional cities also.

We have also established a nice little core of regulars that continue to attend every meeting with exciting projects to share and contribute to.
